MAID undermines people's value in life. It takes those who are already suffering and offers them an "easy out."
Is this what healthcare was meant to be? Death?

I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan
What can we do?
If we honor life, then MAID's intent of death should never be an option. What we can do, however, is look into palliative and hospice care.
These options can improve comfort and fight end-of-life pain. This aligns with a doctor's duty to care for patient wellbeing, and with society's duty to stand with those who are suffering.
Many believe it's compassionate to support choice, but MAID undermines people's value. It also promotes that life can be simply discarded.
Let's stand for a better approach.
Questions & Answers
-
What about supporting someone's dignity?
Dignity is the quality or state of being worthy of honor or respect. It's simply not honorable to take your own life or encourage others to do so. The end of life isn't promised to be comfortable or pretty, but that's what death is — real. It shouldn't be disregarded with an artificial solution.
-
Do you believe people should suffer?
Suffering is a very natural part of life. If someone is suffering depression, there are ways we can help them. If someone is in chronic pain, there are ways we can help them. It's important that care is always provided ethically.
-
Have you ever seen someone suffering with a terrible disease?
This is a fair question, but one does not necessarily need to see something to know it's objectively wrong. The issues with MAID are enough to convince many not to support it.
-
What is the solution?
There isn't always a perfect solution. It's true for MAID and it's true for palliative and hospice care. With that said, fighting pain and doing what can be done to provide comfort is a much better alternative.
People have cultural, ethical, religious, and personal experiences that shape their approaches. Our approach should always be done in a way that is ethical. The difficulty is getting people on the same page to understand what that looks like.

Isn't MAID murder?
Murder is by definition a crime. Unfortunately, because euthanasia has been legalized in places like Canada, it is only murder when it's unlawful. This means it's often not a valid word to describe the act.
More accurately, euthanasia is killing. When a doctor administers a lethal dose of drugs to their patient under MAID, they have knowingly and intentionally killed their patient.
-
Why not let people make their own choices?
This is a common and poor take against pro-life views. If we saw someone drowning, should we leave them alone because they got there by their own choices? Of course not! Therefore, those who believe in the value of life should be willing to stand for it.
-
How can I support this initiative to combat MAID?
There are many ways you can support life and care for those who could be affected by MAID.
Here are a few methods:
- Prayer. Coming before God and asking for His guidance and protection is one of the best things we can do.
- Donations. Donating to pro-life organizations or anti-MAID groups can help fund their missions.
- Publicly sharing your views. Sharing your views among your social media following, or within your friend/family circle can help inform them.
- Help people. Are there any elderly people nearby who need to be cared for? Maybe it's your neighbors or grandparents. Even a phone call can be very meaningful.
- Volunteer. Is there a local organization you can volunteer with? Maybe it's a food bank or your local hospital. Perhaps you can help in nearby nursing homes. Can you bring a dog or facilitate an activity?

If your doctor took an oath or a pledge, it is unlikely that it was the original Hippocratic oath. The original oath is not perfect (e.g. Greek gods), but its stances on euthanasia and abortion should have been upheld.
